Why screenshots aren't enough

A screenshot shows what they say now. Sealed Thread shows what they said.

  • No dates or times. Messages hides them unless you swipe, and a screenshot can't prove when anything was sent.
  • Easy to crop, hard to trust. Nothing shows what came before or after, or that nothing was left out.
  • Edits hide behind a tap. An edited message shows its new wording. The earlier version is a tap away on the phone, but a screenshot leaves it out, along with when it changed. Sealed Thread shows every stored version and its time.
  • Thousands of them. A year of messages is hundreds of screenshots, and one is always missing.

What is Sealed Thread?

A Mac app that turns the iMessage, SMS and WhatsApp history on your Mac into exact, verifiable records: PDFs, pages, spreadsheets and archives showing every message with its date, time and record ID, sealed with SHA-256 fingerprints and a chain-of-custody log.

Will my exports hold up in court?

No app can promise that; the court decides. Sealed Thread gives your attorney what authenticating messages usually requires: complete records with times and IDs, a fingerprint for every file, a custody log and a draft statement of how they were collected.

Do my messages get uploaded anywhere?

No. Sealed Thread makes no network requests and has no account. It reads the Messages database on your Mac read-only, and saves what it makes where you choose.

My messages are on my iPhone. Can I use it?

Yes, through a Mac. Turn on Messages in iCloud on both, and your history syncs to the Mac, where Sealed Thread reads it. For SMS and RCS, also turn on Text Message Forwarding on the iPhone.

Can it show edited and deleted messages?

In iMessage, yes. Apple allows edits for 15 minutes and keeps the earlier versions, and Sealed Thread shows each one with its time. If the other person deletes a message on their phone, your copy stays. Messages deleted on your devices stay in Recently Deleted for about 30 days, which is why sealing a snapshot early matters. If someone unsends within 2 minutes, Sealed Thread shows that it happened, but the text is gone.

Does it work with WhatsApp?

Yes. It reads WhatsApp for Mac and imports chat exports and the WhatsApp database file (ChatStorage.sqlite) from an iPhone backup, sealed and fingerprinted exactly as received. WhatsApp keeps only the latest wording of an edited message, and a message deleted for everyone is gone, so Sealed Thread shows the notice, not the text.
